Ljubljana is the capital city of Slovenia, also the political,
economic and cultural center of the nation.
It is located in central Slovenia, beside the Mt. Alps and the
Sava River, surrounded with mountains and the scenery here is
beautiful. The annual rainfall is 600 millimeters, the average
temperature 9.5¡ãC and the elevation here 420 meters.
There are great number of ancient and modern buildings of various
styles including Ljubljana Castle in the center of the city. The
city has an area of 903.47 square kilometers with 449.64 square
kilometers covered by forests. In 1986, the population was 350
thousand. Most of the people are Slovenian nationalities speaking
Slovenian.
The city is the international cooperation center of Slovenia
with the Economic and Enterprise Research Center of the Developing
Countries and the World Trade Center in the city. With a lot of
advanced technologies and equipments being introduced from developed
countries in the 60s to 70s of last century, the industry in Ljubljana
has expanded rapidly, and industrial products such as micro-electronic
machinery and telecommunication equipment are very popular in
Europe, and they are also sold well in the international markets
in a great volume.
The agriculture here is fairly good. Various quality fruits,
meat and dairy products are major products for exports. In 1987,
the average net income per capita was US$ 5 million amounting
to the same level of developed countries according to the international
standards.
The culture, education, sanitation and scientific research in
this city also developed very rapidly. There are 1 university,
3 colleges with over 30 thousand students; more than 40 scientific
research organizations, 26 museums and 12 art exhibition halls
in Ljubljana. The city¡¯s medical center has modern
equipments and many experts, and it is one of the most famous
medical centers in Europe.
In 1980, Ljubljana and Chengdu were concluded as sister cities.
